A glimpse of Shakespeare
Proletar Teater invited sound designers to be part of their workshop, ‘Soniske Sonetter’ (2024) (Sonic Sonets), in which each artist delivered a sound design based on one of Shakespeare’s sonets. These sonic interpretations became the basis of an entire performance.
I decided to interpret ‘Sonet nr. 99’, in which the poet accuses flowers of stealing both the beauty and smell of their beloved. There are feelings of sadness, anger, bitterness and loss. Two lines are whispered repeatedly:
“Ormene æder jer og jeres sødme”
( “The worms will eat you and your sweetness” )
“Jeg drukner i jeres sødme”
( “I’m drowning in your sweetness” )
