Listening as activism
Sounding Landscapes (2024) is a sound meditation developed for Roskilde Festival 2024. It is part of the Art & Activism programme, and centers around Danish landscapes.
The composition examines the landscapes of Mols Bjerge. Waves, trees and birdsong create an organic soundscape, yet they always exist in the company of manmade technologies:
From the sound of car engines, to the sound of airplanes.
In order to look forward, we must acknowledge that this is the sound of our modern landscapes. By welcoming noise pollution, Sounding Landscapes (2024) aims to connect the audience to their sorroundings, without romanticizing nature as ‘pure’.
The piece is developed as part of a larger project called LANDSKABT x MANDSKABT (LANDSHAPED x MANSHAPED), in collaboration with the youth organization FLOR (Danmarks Naturfredningsforening). Through this project, we explore Danish landscapes and how they affect us.
