To Care for a Rock (2024)

Reaching out, reaching in

‘To Care for a Rock’ is an exploration of ethics and attunement. By investigating the material of a rock, I consider the matter of our relationship. How do we attune ourselves to other beings’ boundaries, when we have no common language?

And what is violence to a rock?

The piece was originally conceived during the workshop ‘Listening at the End of (This) World’ with Pedro Oliveira, and has since been further developed.

The workshop took place at Sound Art Lab in Struer, Denmark.

“I thought about recording that sound of kicking a rock,
but then I realized that I would have to kick a rock on purpose.
And that didn’t feel right.”
